بحثنا: في بنغلاديش، التي تقع على السهول الفيضية شرق الهند، يتابع 1,900 من الفتيات والفتيان المراهقين البنغال في مناطق شيتاغونغ الريفية ودكا الحضرية. كما أننا نتابع 1,800 مراهق/ ة لاجئ/ ة من الروهينغا في كوكس بازار. يشمل بحثنا المراهقين/ ات أنفسهم وأشقائهم ومقدمي الرعاية والمعلمين/ ات وغيرهم من أفراد المجتمع.

السياق: النمو السكاني بطيء، ولكن ما يقرب من واحد من كل خمسة مواطنين بنغاليين هم من المراهقين/ ات الذين تتراوح أعمارهم بين 10 و19 سنة. وعلاوة على ذلك، وعلى الرغم من أن بنغلاديش تسير على الطريق الصحيح للتأهل إلى أن تكون بلد متوسط الدخل بحلول عام 2024، فإن واحداً من كل أربعة أشخاص يعيش تحت خط الفقر، مما يجعلها واحدة من خمسة بلدان في العالم تمثل أكبر الأعداد المجردة من الناس الذين يعيشون في فقر.

التعليم والتعلم: استثمرت بنغلاديش بكثافة في تعليم الفتيات على مدى العقود العديدة الماضية. ومن المرجح أن تسجل الفتيات الالتحاق في المدارس الابتدائية والثانوية على السواء أكثر من الفتيان - ولكن الفتيان يظلون أكثر عرضة لإكمال التعليم الثانوي من الفتيات. الفتيان لديهم حضوراً زائداً أيضا في كل من التعليم التقني/المهني والتعليم العالي، وتتاح لهم فرص أفضل للحصول على المعلومات والتكنولوجيا.  يشكل الفقر دافعا هاما لترك المدارس للفتيات والفتيان على حد سواء، ولكن العادات الاجتماعية تشكل/ تقلل الى حد كبير من إمكانية وصول وحصول الفتيات على التعليم. وتتخلف/ ترسب العديد منهن في المدارس الثانوية لأنهن لا يملكن الوقت لأداء الواجبات المدرسية (بسبب الأعمال المنزلية المخصصة للفتيات وليس للفتيان) أو أنهن أقل احتمالا ً للحصول على دروس دراسية بعد المدرسة (بسبب تفضيل الآباء لإنفاق المال على تعليم أبنائهم الذكور). يتم إخراج أخريات من المدرسة نتيجة للزواج.

الاستقلالية والسلامة الجسدية والتحرر من العنف: على الرغم من التقدم الكبير الذي أحرز مؤخرا في الحد من زواج الأطفال، فإن معظم الفتيات البنغاليات يتزوجن في سن الطفولة. ثلاثة أخماس يتزوجن في سن 18 وتتزوج واحدة من كل ثمانية قبل سن الخامسة عشرة. من بين المراهقات المتزوجات، تتعرض أكثر من الثلث للعنف الجسدي – ويتعرض ربعهن للعنف الجنسي – على أيدي الأزواج.  وبالإضافة إلى ذلك، تتعرض ما يقرب من 90 في المائة من المراهقات للتحرش الجنسي في مجتمعاتهن المحلية. 

الصحة والتغذية والصحة الجنسية والإنجابية: بسبب زواج الأطفال واستمرار تفضيل الإنجاب المبكر، يشيع حمل المراهقات في بنغلاديش - فقد بدأت ثلاثة أخماس الفتيات في الإنجاب بحلول سن 19 عاماً. من غير المرجح أن تتلقى الأمهات المراهقات خدمات ولادة أو رعاية ما بعد الولادة الملائمة. لا يزال سوء التغذية شائعاً بين الفتيات البنغاليات، وهو أمر يسبب اشكالية بشكل خاص بالنظر إلى معدلات حملهن. وتظهر البيانات المستقاة من الاستقصاء الديمغرافي والصحي لعام 2014 أن 31 في المائة من الفتيات المتزوجات اللواتي تتراوح أعمارهن بين 15 و19 سنة يعانين من نقص التغذية.

الرفاه/ العافية النفسية الاجتماعية: هناك أدلة قليلة جداً حول الرفاه/ العافية النفسية الاجتماعية للفتيات المراهقات على نطاق موسع. وقد وجد البحث أن الفتيات – وخاصة الفتيات في المناطق الحضرية – معرضات لخطر اعتلال الصحة النفسية، بسبب عزلتهن الاجتماعية، والتحرش الجنسي، والاعتداء، وزواج الأطفال. 

ابداء الرأي واتخاذ القرار: على الرغم من التحولات الأخيرة نحو توجهات ومعايير أكثر إنصافاً بين الجنسين، لا سيما بين المراهقين/ ات، فإن ابداء الرأي واتخاذ القرار للفتيات المراهقات مقيد بشدة بالعادات الاجتماعية المحافظة التي ترى أن أدوارهن تقتصر إلى حد كبير على الزواج والأمومة. ويتجلى ذلك في مؤشر المؤسسات الاجتماعية والنوع الاجتماعي، الذي حققت فيه بنغلاديش أسوأ نتيجة عامة بين سبعة بلدان في جنوب آسيا.  بينما يُسمح للفتيان بحرية أكبر مع تقدمهم في السن، تزداد القيود المفروضة على حياة الفتيات خلال فترة المراهقة، حيث يحاول الآباء حماية بناتهم من التحرش الجنسي والعنف، والحفاظ على "شرف" الأسرة.

التمكين الاقتصادي: يعمل ما يقدر بمليون طفل تتراوح أعمارهم بين 10 و14 عاماً، وفقط 31 في المائة من الأطفال العاملين يجمعون بين العمل والمدرسة.  توجد أعلى نسبة مئوية من الفتيات المراهقات العاملات في دكا، تليها شيتاغونغ وسيلهيت؛ غير أن الأرقام الدقيقة غير معروفة.  وبالإضافة إلى ذلك، فإن الفتيات دون سن الخامسة عشرة غير مرئيات نسبيا فيما عدا الإحصاءات التعليمية، وحتى المراهقات الأكبر سنا يعتبرن غالباً ضمن الفئة الأوسع من النساء المتزوجات.
