About GAGE
Gender and Adolescence: Global Evidence (GAGE) is a ten-year (2015-2025) research programme building knowledge on good- practices for programmes and policies that support adolescent girls in the Global South to reach their full potential. It is a mixed methods longitudinal research and evaluation study. It follows the lives of 20,000 adolescents in six low- and middle-income countries in Africa (Ethiopia and Rwanda), Asia (Bangladesh and Nepal) and the Middle East (Jordan and Lebanon). The GAGE consortium, managed by the Overseas Development Institute (ODI), includes 35 partner organisations from around the world known for their expertise in research, policy and programming in the fields of adolescence, gender and social inclusion. GAGE is funded by UK aid from the UK government. This research internship will be offered by GAGE in partnership with Research to Action. Research to Action (www.researchtoaction.org) – also known as R2A – is a widely recognised and respected online platform dedicated to strengthening the connection between research, policy, and practice in the field of international development. The platform serves as a valuable resource for researchers, practitioners, policymakers, and funders seeking to enhance the impact of research on development initiatives.
About the role
We are seeking a passionate, creative and motivated intern to join our team and work across our social media channels. The role will provide valuable experience within research communications for an individual looking to gain essential skills needed for working with the global development, gender and youth field. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of social media platforms and be able to create engaging content. This does not need to be formal previous experience and can be through your own personal social media accounts. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating social media content and managing our social media accounts, but with support and oversight by our communications team.
Responsibilities
- Assist in creating and scheduling social media content (across all platforms but particularly focusing on Instagram), including using Canva to create visual content.
- Maintain monthly analytical reports across our social media channels to analyse the performance of social media campaigns.
- Investigate and propose approaches to increase engagement across social media channels.
- Assist with creating the GAGE quarterly newsletter.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest trends in social media and gender and adolescence research and propose ideas for how the programme can best leverage these to increase its visibility.
Requirements

- Strong interest in global development (particularly focused on gender and adolescence topics) and research communications.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
- Familiarity with social media platforms (Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter)
- Ability to work both independently and within a team
- Passion for gender and adolescence research
Desirable
- Proficiency in using social media management tools (such as Hootsuite) and Canva
